I am taking ALL the holidays off (and the day after, too!) I have been in health care all my life, and "single" (ok, no hubby and kids) and sometime family "distances away". So I worked more than my share. I am now a "department of one" so I pretty much take my vacation and holiday's as I please. (yep--I know I am lucky---but I have paid my dues). I used to work nights even, so stayed up all day before or after to do the holiday thing w/ family...that was tough!

Sorry to all you out there. And yep, I'll be out on Friday w/ my family for some low key (later in the day) shopping!

Happy Turkey Day no matter where you are!

I don't have to work on Thanksgiving this year, but have done it and Xmas many times in the past. Animal care doesn't stop for holidays! I always gave the furries lots of love on the holidays since they had to be left behind.

This year I'm the designated wrapper for Black Friday and Saturday at a toy store. It's fun to create some holiday cheer (assuming customers are in similar moods), even tho some of them leave us with entire Xmases of 20-30 presents to wrap!!

I do not have to work on Thanksgiving this year or the following Friday, but I remember the days that I worked Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. That was when I was in college and working in a restaurant.

The one year I made $1000 in two days waiting tables on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I think the customers felt bad for me, like I didn't have anywhere else to go.

This will be the first time since my DH and I were married that he will have to work not only Thanksgiving, but Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. His new job is a rotating two days on, two days off schedule, so that is why he is scheduled to work the holiday. I am bummed, but at least he will home during the day, albeit asleep. We will just have to have our holidays after the dates. I also try to keep in mind the reasons for the holidays, and that helps. We will find time to celebrate regardless of our schedules.

I am not as bummed as I originally was, I am just happy to have a job. Plus I wont be using any vacation time so I can save my days for another time.
