I wouldn't go on either. I find it creepy and don't see the point. When I was teaching, I didn't want my students to "find" me there and now I don't want future clients to find me either...
One of my older son's friends wrote a scathing comment about me and my husband on his MySpace page. I couldn't quite figure out why, since she had never met me; but it turned out that I actually worked with her mom (I didn't know this at the time) and she was basically ranting about caring, normal parents as opposed to her experience of growing up in a dysfunctional family. She also has "other" issues. So, this kind of turned me off of these types of sites.
Cranklin - 4 or 5 years ago one of my friends asked me to join friendster and I did. A couple of days later I got a friend request from a stranger, who had extremely obscene pictures on his profile. I'm no prude but this was really bad. I cancelled my account that day. Since that time my husband has become a specialist in marketing in the social media environment. He encouraged me to join facebook and I did, and I haven't regretted it. Facebook is nothing like myspace or friendster or the others, because it's private. It's not really for "having a page", it's about connecting with people you already know. I've caught up with so many friends that I'd lost touch with from college and other parts of my life. As I've moved away from my college friends it's the easiest way for me to see pictures of their kids and to hear what they're up to. And I've never seen anything inappropriate or mean.
I'm not posting this because I think you should join facebook, but I just wanted to put it out there in case there's a part of you that is a little curious about the upside.
If you do join facebook, use the security settings on your profile to your advantage. No freak can see your profile if you have the settings right!
I don't have any weird folks trying to contact me!
Tehy're all on your friend list already.![]()
