I"ve had two break in the back -- two different ways and places, and both time, Giro sent out the replacement -- even checked for matching colors -- without a question. Love that.

Today has been a bad karma bike day. But, hopefully good bike products and customer service can turn that Karma around.
First, my brand new tires go over the hugest piece of glass I have ever seen on a road that wasn't at the scene of an auto accident that just happened.
Next, I get home from that, and my beloved Giro Pneumo road bike helmet breaks. The body of the helmet is good. No crash. But it's the re-tention adjustment piece that broke.
I bought it two years ago. So, I'm thinking it's past the date where any manufacturer warranty would apply. I called Giro to see if just this part could be bought, vs spending the $ on a whole new helmet.
The customer service rep was very helpful and said she would send one out to me. Should come in 7-10 days. No questions asked about how long I owned it. Notta. Just if I was involved in a crash.
I don't know if it's totally safe to use as in the meantime. Probably not. Luckily I have my mtb helmet to wear. It's yuck heavy for the road. But, it would protect my head just the same.
Hopefully I can get the new piece in ok when it arrives. Just thought I would share this. Here's what the helmet did in terms of breaking...

Oh, geeeeeeezzz....
I just had the exact same thing happen to my Giro Pneumo....the retention strap broke. No crash....no nuthin'. Just failed.
I went and bought a new helmet. I didn't even think to call Giro. I assumed since wasn't in a crash, no dice. (It was almost 4 years old....I also figured I was due for a new one soon anyway)
Bummer.

you're lucky. My husband trimmed his strap too short on his VERY EXPENSIVE helmet and they said, tough, there's no replacement!

Man, I know... I did not think the Giro lady was going to mail me something for free. I just wanted to ask if a replacement part could be bought seperately versus spending the money for a new helmet. Before I got it all out of my mouth, she just chimed in a new one would be on it's way.
I haven't had the best luck with stuff lately. My tires just bit the dust. And I think now my wheelset was recalled without knowing it. Gotta call on that one yet. So, gheez... I'm glad Giro offered up.
My retention part came today. Only drawback is that the tabs in the back are black, and not white that matches my helmet in the pic. She didn't ask on color, as one gal posted in this thread. But, black is pretty matching basic. Quick service! 3 days. I got it installed, and the helmet seems to fit good as new.
If you're feeling brave, you can try to swap those parts. I got the pink ones off of my broken one and put them on the one I used waiting for my replacement. BUT, be careful -- it looked like they could break if you did it wrong.
