    Stinky Illumilite?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I just received an Early Winters (now Sahalie) illumilite cycling jacket that I won on eBay. It's a sweet jacket, with pit zips, a vent in back, plus a rear pocket...but...it smells funky! It is a previously-owned item (the seller, though, is just a re-seller, not the original owner) but in every other respect, it's in excellent condition.

Even after washing it, the funky smell is still there. I washed it again...still smells weird. I currently have it hanging outside to dry in the hopes that airing it out will reduce the funk.

I'm wondering if anyone else has any illumilite clothing, and if the odor is maybe an unavoidable by-product of the reflective material, or did I just get a stinky jacket?

ETA: I just found a 5-dollar bill in the rear pocket.

I guess I meant IllumiNite (oops). In any case, I must have the only smelly one!

    It's not so bad...it just smells a little "chemical-ish".

Chemical-ish? Not BO-ish? *wonders what the chemical could be*

I'd try using some washing soda along with the detergent, and hanging it in the sun for several hours to dry. UV light is a wonder when it comes to de-stinkifying.

I hate to think what kind of built-up, hardcore BO is able to stand up to how many times I've washed the thing... *shudder*

I have no experience with Illuminte (the only Illuminite item I own is a fleece hat), but I know older Patagonia Capilene could really hold onto stink (the newer stuff seems a little better).
