I only just got a cell phone for the first time a couple months ago. The ringer is off 24/7 and I am lucky if I remember to check messages once a day. I do use it to make calls from home, but when I am in the car it is in my bag locked in the trunk.

The new CA law SUPPOSEDLY fines an offender something like $50 and it does not have to be a secondary offense. However, I think most people don't find that to be enough of a deterrant, especially because with CA's atrocious budget we don't have enough money to put out the amount of police force necessary to enforce this law. I see plenty of people yacking away.

I do admit to being one of those who eats and drinks in the car while driving. Probably just as dangerous . . .
