As a former Lab Tech ("lab rat"), I've always been amazed that they collect the raw sample / extract the DNA/ replicate it / read the gel, AND arrest the guy in 24 hours. When I was doing PCR, it took a little longer than that! Unfortunately, the general public gets the notion that the lab tests can be run in just a couple of minutes. I think they should have a timer running on the bottom to show how long things actually take. About as much fun as watching bacteria grow on agar.
