    They are not a customer. We are a customer of theirs and I didn't solicit anything. My business contact asked to help! I had no idea he was going to take it up to the President of his company.

    Different companies have different policies on this. I work in a University, and our dept. chair asked us to not solicit donations for charity rides, etc. at work. He worried perhaps our students and subordinates would feel undue pressure.

    I do not think you violated any ethical boundary, but perhaps your employer needs to set very specific and clear policy on this type of activity.
