    Shorts Advice

I am getting tired of spending $$$ on bike shorts to discover that they are uncomfortable so I'm asking (begging more like it!) for advice.

The problem is that I am very small, I am 5'1" and 102 pounds and my hips and seat bones are very narrow. So, most of the shorts that are padded have these HUGE pads on the butt that literally cover my hiney and are really uncomfortable. I am looking for shorts that have a narrower channel of padding. The kicker is they have to come in extra small and I prefer shorts that are longer (mid thigh), any shorter and they tend to ride up and chafe.

Any ideas? Someone recommended Danskins, but my LBS doesnt carry them so I would have to order them. Before I make the plunge I thought I'd see if anyone has used them.

juvel01, I'm 5'2" and 106 lbs. My favorite shorts are the Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor in size XS. I'm not sure if the pad would be narrow enough for you but I have no problems with chafing. When you are looking for shorts check out ebay as you can get them for cheaper. I've bought several pair, all new with tags, for cheaper than I could get them anywhere else. It's also hard to find XS on sites such as Performance and in bike shops.

have you thought of trying mens shorts?....the padding is different and may be more comfortable for you. or kids shorts??
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

I'm more average than small: 5'4" and wishing I was 115... Anyway, I love my pearl izumi sugar short. The padding is quite minimal. The inseam is short though. Still, 5 inches should be enough for a 5'1" person I would think.

I'm 5'1" and a size 0/kids 14. I like the trashy cat shorts. The chamois is not too long, approx. 10" and is narrow but not as minamilist as the sheebest hourglass, also sugoi have a shorter chamois. I found the PI chamois too long, also the performance ultra chamois which covers half my butt.
You might want to call TE. They were really helpful measuring chamois lengths and widths for me; they also suggested I might want to try the giordana shorts or the hincapie (velo bella) shorts.
My lbs trys to stock xs and has no problem ordering a pair of nike dristyle short in xs for me to try with no obligation to buy, as the owners wife wears xs. I'll report back on how they fit.
