My son, Scott, is coming back from Iraq next Saturday. The seven months have gone by very quickly. He is heading back to Camp Pendleton and then taking a long vacation in Australia for a couple of weeks. We will go out to SD to see him at Thanksgiving. A whole family reunion, since my dad and brother live there, too.
I just wanted to thank everyone for their support, especially Trisk. who sent him care packages.
Of course, he is going to Australia with no plan at all, not even a hotel reservation. To be 23 again...

Oh, I'm so glad he's coming home!!!
I guess he figures his life has been planned for him for the last 7 months, so what's 2 weeks in Australia with no plan? No big deal! And yes, being young and living life on the edge is a wonderful thing (but he definitely pays the price while serving for our country).
Please thank him for his service.

    hey

Crankin-It';s good to hear Scott's coming home safe & sound.

If Scott doesn't have a plan already..suggest flying to Adelaide & then driving up to the Alice (Alice Springs). That would take two weeks!

Another option is to fly to Perth & drive up to the Ningaloo Reef..

Thanks, everyone. He actually is NOT coming here to Massachusetts for any part of his leave. I was pissed at first, but that's why we planned to go out to CA for Thanksgiving. My older son and his girlfriend are coming, too. It's good that he is using this time to travel. When he was younger, he stayed very close to home and was always too wrapped up in racing or studying. I am glad he wants to travel now. But, the biggest change is that is now he actually is talking about "when he gets out" and going back to school. It's been hard for me to keep my mouth shut about the whole school thing (I guess I will always be a teacher inside), but my strategy seems to have worked. Only 3.5 years to go!

So glad he's on his way home soon! Wonderful!! Happy reunion to you all. Please thank him for his service, and thank you for your sacrifice. I know how hard it is to have someone you love deploy. God bless.
