    New Cat

Last April we said goodbye to our 16 year old kitty-child, a very difficult time. We have missed her terribly but just couldn't think about replacing her. We missed her too much.

Three weeks ago I stopped in the PetSmart store on the way home from work just to look at the Humane Society cats there. Just to look, you know. I walked past a sad row of cats all asleep in cages, like life was too hard to face waking. All silent except for one greeting "Mrrrt?" from the back of a cage. Could I hold that one? I certainly could.

She's on my lap now, and the computer is pushed way out to my knees to make room for her. I haven't named her yet but she is the sweetest, gentlest, most loving little cat I've ever met in my 60 years. All they could tell me is that she was a stray, and she's about five. She's a little lover. She pets us with her paws, kisses, hugs, stands on her hind legs and stretches up her front legs to be picked up, and is just a doll. At night if she gets cold she sticks her nose under the covers and, wiggle-wiggle-wiggle - gets under there with us.

Someone lost a great cat and I feel sorry for them, but glad she made it to the Humane Society before something bad happened to her.

I will get a picture out here soon. First I have to load the camera software on this new computer, dump some of the pictures from the camera to the pc because the camera's memory card is so full it won't take another picture... and then I can take her picture.

She's a brown tabby/tortoiseshell, kind of tiny, with odd dots, stripes, and blotches all over. A very good girl. When I tell her "Kitties don't do that." She makes a mental not to do that thing when I'm looking.

I have always felt that cats choose us, not the other way around. Sounds like she did just that and I am so glad that you have a new kitty to love! We lost our precious cat Majic this past year - she was 15. We have our other cat Indy - he is 14 and a sweet boy. I wish you many happy years with your new kitty and glad that she is giving you such joy!! Post pics soon!

Congratulations! I really feel that cats are very special creatures and i commend you for adopting an older cat, most people just seem to want the cute kittens. I have two cats at home both of them rescue cats, one of them chose my husband and the other chose me and our lives would be different without them. Enjoy those first weeks of bonding!!!!!

Oh how sweet! I'm so glad Murt picked you!!

I really wish I could have a cat, my honey is deathly allergic so it'll never happen...I'll have to content myself with others wonderful stories.

awww, that is so great!! that lucky cat

and yes we need a pic!!

I lost my cat back in 2005... but unlike you, I acted out of despair and sadness and adopted a new one immediately. He's awesome... and he was a stray too. At the time 1.5yrs old, and he's been with me for 3.5 yrs now. Here's a pic of him... (actually he was pretty sick in this pic. Little did I know at the time, but he had swallowed a 1" piece of rubber strap off my laptop battery pack... and it cost me $2,000 for his surgery to have it removed. It was not a fun time... he almost died... I now have to keep all small chewing objects out of his reach)

    Cats are great... congratulations

Man, my kitty needs to take notes! Just last night she broke a tent pole in our $200 tent that was set up in our living room drying out. Luckily it will just take a few bucks to repair, but no matter how many times I tried to explain to her that kitties aren't supposed to break expensive things (like the time I tried to explain that to her after she chewed through the cord pull on our new wood blinds), she just looks at me and meows innocently.

    Gah.

Anyway, happy to hear of your new addition!

You know you have to name her "Murt" now, don't you?

Good for you, adopting an older cat. Can't wait to see some pics!
