From the way JeniRoosen describes the incident, I'm assuming that it was said in a snotty way. That's so unnecessary! But what was said and how it was said are both important. He could have said it nicely to inform her what she would be in for if she joined them. But he SHOULD have said, "They average around "X" miles per hour".
