Was it cold in Federal Way this year? It was pleasant ranging to warm at Green Lake. It depended on the breeze and shade. There was one stretch that had a tailwind (tailwinds when I'm running don't impress me, they just make me hot) and no trees. It also happened to be toward the end of the race
I did ok. I met my goals but had a HUGE life lesson. It's easy to remember "it's my race and I won't let others dictate what I do" until the start. They started the 5K and 10K at the same time and my time at mile one was the fastest I've ever done. Er...it went downhill from there. I don't mind the time I did it in but I would have preferred to start up slow and be stronger at the end as opposed to starting out fast and thinking "oh please let me keep going, I can puke and run at the same time!" toward the end. It didn't dawn on me that our 10K had 700 people in it and the 5K had 1600 so odds are I was trying to stay up with a lot of the 5K folk. DuhI was 9th out of 72 (I think) for my age group. Being that it was my first 10K, I am happy.
