I think it's too authoritative to tell people to "Get over it" or tell them to stop thinking about something.
Heck, I can think about whatever I choose to!

It's an interesting subject and I'm always interested in things that reflect the current state of our culture and society. I'm truly not losing any sleep over LOL cats- just couldn't figure out why the style of the captions are supposed to be funny. The cat photos are certainly sometimes cute and amusing. I see these LOL things used and sent around attached to email often these days. I have received quite a few myself. Wackyjacky's explanation shed some light on the matter, though I myself don't really see a big resemblance to cell phone 'text speak' except maybe in stuff like using "4" for "for", etc.

I confess that to me personally, it goes beyond the "Engrish" thing- the captions used remind me more of when Eddie Murphy used to do his satirical imitation of Buckwheat talking in a stereotypical Amos n' Andy, Step n' Fetchit, JackBenny/Rochester type manner. Probably most people here are too young to remember that stuff on tv/radio/movies, but I remember it well, and it still makes me a bit uncomfortable, and the LOL style reminds me of that. Maybe it's a generational thing. Maybe they truly have nothing to do with each other. That's why I was interested in the logic behind this LOL thing- I found it puzzling but I didn't want to pass my own judgment on it before knowing more about it.

If anyone thinks I am over thinking it, well that's fine! I'm all for thinking what you like! I believe that sometimes thinking in depth is not a bad thing. Everyone can have their own opinions and thoughts and it's all ok.
