I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.
I really need to get west of the Mississippi. I plan on heading to Texas this fall, that'll be my first visit there.

I plan on seeing as much of this earth as possible. Ninety percent of that travel has been in the 5 years since I graduated college. Dad didn't like to fly, so growing up, family vacations were limited to wherever he was willing to drive (and he doesn't like driving). Joining a driving club is the coolest thing I've ever done, I've seen some amazing places thanks to them, and have made lifelong friends![]()

You know, it's kind of funny that someone could go 5 hours from home and still be in the same state. Only in Texas can you do that.
Anyway.

I live in Central Texas, takes about 6-8 hours to leave the state in any direction! I would guess for someone in Lubbock to go to Corpus Christi it would practically be a two day drive.
It is crazy to us when people talk about driving just over to another state for dinner or something. That being said almost all of the states I have seen from a car, not a plane. Which is crazy to think about as well.
We do have a traveling bunch here, I guess my assumption was right for this group although I suspect we may be skewed somewhat.

Oh yeah, and try getting to Baxter State park from the border of Maine in less than 5 hours! Pennsylvania is also a large state (particularly by east coast standards). And driving to Florida - nothing sucks more than cheering because you crossed into the state and then having to wait another 6 or 7 hours before you get to your southern Florida destination (never mind Key West!).![]()

Sheesh...for being a military brat I really haven't been to all that many places!
Wow. Amazing how well-traveled most of you are!
Here's my list:
-- Northern California (born and raised) (rarely to Southern California)
-- Florida (Disneyworld when I was about 4 or 5 yrs. old)
-- Louisiana (to visit grandparents when I was very young -- they moved to CA to be closer to us when I was 10 or so)
-- Oregon (Ashland for the Shakespearean festival about 10 years ago and Portland for ice skating nationals about 30 years ago)
-- Northern Idaho (to visit people)
-- Nevada (brother and sister-in-law live outside Reno; also go to Lake Tahoe lots)
-- Arizona (lived there for 8 years or so -- met and married hubby there)
-- Illinois (college in Chicago)
-- Michigan (college friend's parents cabin, while living in Chicago)
-- Minnesota (visited college friend, while living in Chicago)
-- Wisconsin (church retreat, while living in Chicago)
-- Arkansas (one year of college)
-- Georgia (visit college friend's friends over spring break, while living in Arkansas)
I think that is it. More than I thought, but the majority of that was quick little trips with college friends here and there while in college). As far as out of the country goes, my husband and I went to Italy for the first time last year. Beyond that, I've never even been to Mexico or Canada.
My husband had never been outside of Arizona (okay, I think he did go to Mexico a few times and maybe Southern California) before we met/married. Now we're living in Northern California and he's been to Nevada and Italy. That's it!
Oh! And how could I forget, Ecuador for two weeks as part of a missions class in college. That was my other out-of-the-country excursion . . .
