Starting tour ride in rain

I just checked accuweather.com for the morning commute, and it looks like it should be clear until late morning. But they've been off all week . . .

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you have good riding conditions!

Right now..I'm gonna bed..survival tactic...we have to get up at 3:00 am tomorrow...long story here. Enough to put anyone to sleep.

Happened to me too.

The first day of our tour of the Puget Sound and the San Juan islands, it poured like crazy. We rode from Port Townsend to Sequim that first day. Sequim likes to boast that it's in a rain shadow and that it gets substantially less rain than Seattle. Well, riding into Sequim in the torrential rain I yelled out "Rain Shadow my Azz!".

Fun day.

I feel for you. I hope it wasn't as bad today as you thought it might be.
Stop often if you need to, stay warm, and try to have fun. On my tour in June, I stopped on the second day because of torrential rain. I kept singing "Singing in the Rain" then changed all the words to fit my biking in the rain. It worked until I stopped for lunch and got too cold to go on.

Solvang double century 2006 - probably 160 of 200 miles in the rain, beginning about mile 20. Davis 400k last year - most of it in the rain, let's just leave it at that. (The only really nice weather was the first part of the return where V joined me.) 600k in 2006 had only 15 miles in the middle in the rain, but so hard I thought I wouldn't be able to breathe.

It's definitely harder to start in the rain or when you know rain is imminent than to keep going if it starts raining in the middle.
