OK, you guys. I just went back to the Mary Meyer Sunday pool clinic. Boy, after Danskin, the crowds shrink, from, like 20 people pre-Danskin, to, uh...SIX today. She worked our butts off and it was great! This is how I plan to spend a lot of my winter Sundays.
Needing to go somewhere now to blow off the high endorphin level I always have after the pool clinics....
Also, by the way--her website now has really excellent drill/instructional videos.

Do you have a feel for how a person who doesn't actually know how to swim might do at a MM clinic?
I don't know how to swim, I just get in the water and flail around until I reach my destination.
'course, if I start going to a pool over the winter I'll have to buy a swimsuit.(oh, but that means more shopping on TE!)
My biking is ok, but I gotta work on swim and run before next year's tri season. (ran/walked a mile this morning... yay me!)

Yes! The nice thing about these clinics is that they have one lane and one coach for beginners, where they teach you the correct basics---stroke, breathing, etc.; lots of teaching over in that lane as well as practicing; then, several lanes and one coach for the technique/efficiency folks, who already know the basics of the freestyle but need to work on doing it better (I'm there); lots of observing and teaching here as well; and one lane for swim team, the few people good enough to not need much coaching--they are just assigned a certain set of laps and they go on their own.
I LOVE these clinics. They are so good for me and really fun. I always come out totally stoked and slightly bananas with respect to adrenalin level, as my spouse will attest (Him--"Are you starting to wind down a little now?" Me--"Yeah, but I forgot to tell you about this one really cool drill she had us do where..." Etc.).

Knot, I went last year and they had to (gently) tell me how to put on a swim cap. Serious. If anything, the lower level you are, the more one-on-one instruction you get. I love the clinics. I don't know if I'll be going until after the marathon but I would love to go starting mid-October or so.
The instructors are a lot of fun and I thought they were very patient. I was apprehensive, self-conscious, and whole bunch of other things. After I left my first session, I wanted to go back.
And re the rain? When I ran this morning, I wore sunscreen. When I ran this afternoon, I had to wring out my clothes after! My shoes are still drying.
