I took my 2nd ride this afternoon, was glad for the hybrid tires because it was pretty bumpy and gravel-ly ;-) along side our main highway. My bum hurt so much I almost turned right back around, but I found my biker spirit and went for it! Glad to see other Mo's here. I'm a transplant from western KY - if any of you are out there too.

Thanks again for the warm welcome. - Val

my bike posed again for a pic at a water stop...she's such a ham

I can't bear the thought of you riding on that saddle.
Please, I'm begging you- REPLACE THE SADDLE!!!

I have the same bike (but not the same saddle)

I'll seriously consider it - but wonder if I should try bike shorts first to see if that would help enough as someone suggested. I have been reading some saddle threads for suggestions. I was sure I had enough "insulation" before this!

The stock saddle really hasn't been THAT uncomfortable for me so far... it's actually more comfortable than what I had on my old bike, but I think that's more a function of the crappiness of my old one as opposed to the comfort of the new, haha.

For what it's worth, though, I'm personally going to give it a couple weeks and a few rides with some proper bike shorts before I consider swapping mine out.

I haven't been on a bike in a couple of years so I am sure that is part of it. I also had a crappy bike from X-Mart 50 dollah! Happy biking to you - I feel lucky to get this bike, it was the last 7.2 2008 in the shop. Did you see the 7.2 2009 ----ooooooh beautifullllllll but not beautiful enough for more money!

What you don't need is a lot of padding. You should be able to ride fifty miles in tri shorts with the right saddle.

Hello from MO! I ride the Katy on my Trek Hybrid and just got a new Trek street bike. Guess I'll go saddle shopping also!

Congrats on the new bike, Val. May you have many long and delightful rides together.
In addition to the comments about changing the seat, my suggestion is to give your body (specifically your bottom ) a chance to adjust to the new demands you are making of it. I don't ride during the winter months, so each spring it takes a few rides/weeks before I get what I call my 'butt calluses" . Until then, it hurts to ride, it hurts to sit.......
