I have the Giant Rainier w/disc brakes. Ive had it for a few years and it seems to be a solid bike.

I am currently looking at buying a giant rock. I like the boulder but for that extra money I don't think it is any better than the rock just that it has disc brakes. How do you like riding your Giant and what model is it????

KnottedYet has a Giant. Granted it's 1980's lugged steel road bike which is not what you're getting but she <3's her Giant.

I have a Giant Road bike and love it.
For MTB I came very close to buying a Reign but the deal fell through for non bike related reasons.
You get a lot for your money with Giant and you can't go wrong. GO FOR IT!
I've had mixed experiences with Giant.
Good: I've had a Giant road bike for years and love it ... no complaints
Bad: My DH got a giant mtb bike and had really bad issues with the frame -- seems it was twisted when the shop received it .. but not enough to notice. He rode a 100K on it and burned through the break pads without once applying the breaks. We had a good relationship with the shop so he was able to return it and get a different brand.
I agree that you get great components for the price though ...
I own a women's specific Giant that is a road bike. The OCR1. I am happy with it.
My mtb just happened to be a diff brand at another shop that didn't deal Giant. It's a Trek. Hard trail wsd 4500. No disc brakes.
Like you, the next big $ bump up was the disc brake model. Att, I would have never thought of really getting them. The lbs said unless I was doing more agressive mtb, I didn't need them either.
I'm more of a roadie gal, but recenlty have found some diff mtb trails to ride. Now, I will preface this with, I'm a middle aged broad, have some health/back issues per doc's orders I have to be careful about my activities (like not crash hardon my mtb), and after riding the new trails, I wish I had disc brakes
.
On the same trail, a younger guy friend of mine said he wouldn't need them. He's all about speed in descending. I'm more cautious (even in my road handling) and would like more stopping power. If I continue, think I might see about the upgrade. FWIW.
So, I can't say specifically about Giant's mtbs, but on what I have is good. Best of luck with your decision!
I have decided to buy the giant rock. Maybe later on I may get into a road bike but fro now with my 2 and a half year old son I need a bike that I am going to enjoy and one that he can come with me. I am getting the giant rock at a cheaper price as my cousin works in a LBS. Lucky me, Thankyou for all your help with my decision

I'm late to your post but I love my Giant Cypress. Bayridge Bikes is the best bike dealer I've met.
