Which toe? How bad? What shoes?

I badly sprained my big toe doing Aikido, maybe I broke it, who knows. The nail went black (eww) fell off (ewwww) grew back (whoopee!!!) and I just kept on ridin' and doing what I do.

This went on for years and though the toe was stiff I didn't do anything about it 'cause I could still do what I want to do. Side note, on my bike I wear ATB shoes. So for a couple years I trained with the sprain. I did the AIDS ride, did another, led training rides for a year ... no problem.

Then across a smokey crowded REI I saw her, the Sidis, they were blue, they were s@xy, all the coolio chikies who pass me were wearing them. So it must be their shoes, right? .

I bought them. And like the fickle thing I am abandoned the clunky but comfy ATB shoes I'd worn through the many miles.

They felt like bunny slippers in the store On training rides my right (sprain) foot was slightly less comfy on longer rides it hurt a little bit but in the idiot move of the century I brought them on AIDS Lifecycle

On 545 miles of back to back centuries the choice of shoe not only landed me in the SAG wagon each day but I'm now doing PT to try to avoid having surgery that could end both my cycling and my Aikido training. I messed up my foot big time.

So. Can you train with a sprain? Yes!

If your bike fits and you're otherwise comfy, maybe orthotics sure.

    Should you? I dunno, depends.

Get thee to a Dr. and make sure it's a sprain and not a hairline fracture as mine probably was. From there do and what the Dr. says to keep the toe/foot comfy. Don't keep training just because you can. And while I'm not a Dr. nor do I play one on TV if your feet hurt .... stop.

Soooooo, do as I say and not as I did
