I'm always glad to see another newbie like me around these parts. You are a southern girl raised in the north and I'm a norther girl raised in the south! (Central Florida).
When I was typing in the title of this email, I had a major flashback to my father teaching me to ride a bike in rural Pennsylvania on an elbow-eating gravel road in the early 1950's.
I can't tell you how many times he ran behind the bike holding the seat and then letting go only to see me fall....again. It got to the point where I would hide when he'd call out, "Squirt, it's time to learn to ride again."
On one particular day, my literal child mind made him laugh. He held the bike and said, "Okay, get aboard." I started walking around in circles looking at the ground. Getting slightly irritated, he said, "What in the heck are you doing? I told you to get aboard!"
"But Daddy, I am doing what you said. I've looked all over the road but I can't find a board."
