    Newbie saying Hello

    HELLO!

Checking in as a newbie to the forum and adult rider. I rode a bit as a kid but never rode a lot then. I love being back to cycling with serious intent to lose some jiggly weight, maintain my health and simply enjoy something outdoors which I can do almost year round. I see from my small bit of lurking how much advice and great ideas abound here,thanks.....once again HELLO!

    Welcome aboard

I'm always glad to see another newbie like me around these parts. You are a southern girl raised in the north and I'm a norther girl raised in the south! (Central Florida).

When I was typing in the title of this email, I had a major flashback to my father teaching me to ride a bike in rural Pennsylvania on an elbow-eating gravel road in the early 1950's.

I can't tell you how many times he ran behind the bike holding the seat and then letting go only to see me fall....again. It got to the point where I would hide when he'd call out, "Squirt, it's time to learn to ride again."

On one particular day, my literal child mind made him laugh. He held the bike and said, "Okay, get aboard." I started walking around in circles looking at the ground. Getting slightly irritated, he said, "What in the heck are you doing? I told you to get aboard!"

"But Daddy, I am doing what you said. I've looked all over the road but I can't find a board."

    Thank you, Ladyicon.
For sure..knowledge is rampant here! I intend to ride all year unless snow or ice impedes my wheels{days I cannot ride I'll be on my elliptical drooling over those bike-o-vision dvd scenes around the world as I stay in shape}...cooler weather advice will be very useful then.
