Your link to be prepared for emergencies is a great idea. Preparation isn't a big deal, but can make a big difference, if you need to be self sufficient or leave your home.

Not that I'm all that prepared, one of my coworkers has pretty much everything a person could need in his car, under the work desk ... at his home. He's Mr. Safety

But one of the simple things you can do is put a box right under the bed; spare set of glasses in my case, slippers, flashlight. Why the slippers? In a big one there's going to be glass so at least a way to get out.

Remind me, I need to change the spare water supply. It's under all sorts of construction tools right now.

Whew! I made it home and not a thing was out of place. The cats were strange, but they're always strange. Amy- we need to ride in celebration of our houses not falling down! Maybe this weekend.

I'm not prepared for a real emergency at all. I think many of us in the city are so used to having everything nearby, that it's hard to imagine not having the convenience. I used to have a jug of water and a flashlight, but I have no idea what happened to them. I guess that's something we should work on.

Yes, I'm located 72.7 miles from the epicenter, in Marked Tree. I really hope we don't have The Big One because it will be at least 8.0 on the Richter scale.

Every 140 years there's a major quake on the Hayward fault ... the last one was about 139 years ago. So it's not if ... when. I was happy to find out while tearing things apart here that the hovel is earthquake reinforced. I think of my bikes as part of my emergency kit.

Bet nobody remembered I was working on a 300 ton sand sculpture here in southern Cali yesterday when it hit? Very scary at first! Then realized my sculpture is probably more stable then most building here.No damage at all for us. Thank goodness considering today is our last day after working on it for a whole month. That would have been bad!

Trek, one geologist said the earthquake is predicted to hit with 90% probability in the next 25 years. He also said that at the current rate of fossil fuel consumption that our reserves will be exhausted in 50 years. My dad, who is an engineer, feels that some of the earthquakes are caused by the oil drilling. If his theory is true, we could be in for an interesting ride on the seismic wave.

Hey Brandi, I DID think of you. I was remembering what you said about the vertical portions being so hard to construct. Glad everything is Okay and you are finally going home even though only a short visit. We did feel it here in Glendale where I am on the 16th floor of a high-rise. No problems though. Just waiting for the BIG one on the San Andreas.

Lol I was driving when it happened and had no clue until the girl at Sport Eve asked if I felt the earthquake.

And then the texts started coming in asking if I am ok. And I had no clue why they were asking.

I saw this video this morning...I can't believe the guy who just drops his bike to run out of the store and then all the other people stampede over it. I could never drop my bike on the ground and just leave it!
