    Is Badger independently owned?

Ever since Burt's Bees got acquired by Chlorox, I kinda lost that lovin' feeling. If Badger is still indie, I might buy some of their salve.

ETA: went to their website, ooooh, now I wanna buy everything. It says they are "family owned", but is there a holding company involved? Aw, heck, who cares.... those balms sound great!

    Knott -

I'm almost positive they are. Can't find anything confirming on their website ('cept the family pic).

    I'll email 'em

    Knott -

I think you edited at the same time I posted

The company is the WS Badger Company, Inc. (and the registered agent appears to be the "Bill" from the website - a pretty good sign they're not very corporate). I think they're cool, but I'll let you know if I get a reply

I *love* their Sleep Balm. Yummy smell - and a nice before bed ritual. All their lip balms are cool (faves are cinnamon and highland mint - smells like mint tea with honey). The healing balm works well. I do prefer the tins to the sticks of the lip stuff.

I bought a tin of the "Healing" balm yesterday.

Hey, that's good stuff! Thanks for telling us about it.

Really liked the "Evolving" balm, too, but it was too expensive. Maybe next time!

    Glad you liked it

I did get a reply from Badger:
Yes, we are still indy - and have no plans to be otherwise at this point. We are a very small family-owned business, located in a tiny rural New Hampshire town. Our offices are in an old Cape Cod style house, and we all (about 35 of us) sit down together for a wonderful organic lunch (courtesy of Badger) every day. It's a very healthy place to work and play! And we're now a USDA Certified Organic facility - but you probably already knew that!

Thanks so much for your interest in our company and our products. Please always feel free to contact us with any further comments or questions.
I'm glad to hear it, as I can still feel good supporting them

I didn't know that...thanks for heads up. When did that happen?
Clorox Bees just won't sound the same.

A couple years ago, I think? There was a neat article about the chickie who owned Burt's Bees in a women's magazine. She seemed content with having sold BB to Chlorox, and Chlorox was keeping her on as a creative director for the product line.

Interesting article on the Clorox deal (though not the one Knott references):

    hmmm

I was pondering purchasing some items from honey house however have the following thought in my head.

If the AQIS allows Burts Bees items into Australia, will they allow the Honey HOuse stuff in? I like the Burts Bees stuff & we can buy it down here now! I'd be much happier if i could support a family owned business..

After loving and using it happily for years, I suddenly developed a severe allergy to Burts Bees lip balm....it was a reaction to the essential oils in it. It was awful!

Now I use Dr. Hauschka's lip balm (expensive but i love it) and when on the go I carry the Kiss My Face chapstick in peach flavor. Neither has the peppermint oil etc that inflames my lips.
I am a big Dr. Hauschka fan....especially of their Moisturizing Day Cream. After searching for decades for something light and moisturizing that won't clog my pores or feel oily or perfumey, it's the one thing my face skin just loves, once every morning.
