Yeah, but if it's a GPS-only unit that measured the climbing, rather than a barometric altimeter measurement, the numbers are high. I think MDHillSlug's ft per mile comparison is a good guideline.

Thanks so much ladies!!
It makes more sense now. I promise I will get back to you after the ride and let you know how it went.
I like the idea of "mildly challenging."
And I'm planning on having a blast, hilly or not!

50 miles done! A really beautiful ride. I would highly recommend it.
And it wasn't too hilly. Mildly challenging was a good description. Lots of hills, but none of them "killer hills."
Now I will have a better idea of figuring out climbing grades for future rides.
Thanks again,
Lynette
Congratulations! Job well done.![]()

I completed the Lobster Haul 100-mile for the first time, and use a Garmin Edge 305 computer. I have to say, the first 50 miles was indeed hilly. My unit has a separate tally for ascending feet and descending feet, and I came out with over 8,000ft for the 100-mile route.

The ride was fantastic! Very scenic, but, those first 50 miles make the second 50 with the rollers seem just like the larger, longer grades found getting up to that first water stop in Belmont.
I will ride this again next year, for sure!
Wow, Quadzilla,
After seeing the elevation of the first 50 miles, I'm glad that I only did the second 50 miles!!
I'm impressed with your climbing ability!
Congratulations!!
BTW - the whole ride is now also on Map My Ride - just search for rides in Rockland, ME.
