We rode 10.3 miles yesterday and averaged 11.8 mph. It felt so GOOD to be on the bike, although I am weak as a kitten and have no energy, at one point Ben put his hand on my back to push me up a hill, I asked, "Was I THAT bad?" he said, "no, I just wanted to play with your butt!"

Next Saturday we have the Tour de Gap in Buffalo Gap, TX. I'm not sure we'll do 10, 25 or 50 miles. If our son's girlfriend rides with us while our son races the 100K we will probably just do ten miles. I don't care though, I am ON the bike and that is what counts!
Ever notice that 'what the hell' always seems to be the best decision?

Great that you got to ride! At this point, don't worry at all about average speed, just enjoy getting out and pedaling. I am hoping to get out for my first road ride since my accident very soon now, and that's my plan - just enjoy being out and not worry about mileage, speed, anything (except dogs, of course!)

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

Way to go, KK and Emily

    So good to hear

Emily, still have images of you with all those lads from the local bike club(?) looking after you and riding in formation with you... can anyone get a pic for us?

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

KK is seems like you have over come some hurdles in your life. You will be back to your normal cycling stamina in no time.

Emily I do read your blog and you have made incredible progress. Your determination and hard work is paying off nicely and I also cannot wait to hear about your first group ride. You will be protected like the Team Discovery protects Lance!

Thanks ladies! I am going to start a new thread re. my first group ride so as not to steal this one. My buddies who planned an "Emily ride" were out of state so could not be there for my return to the road, but hopefully they will still plan a ride like that soon! In the meantime, check out my separate thread.

    Hugs,
    Emily
