Yay KG!!! It's amazing how well a person can run on legs that are tired from cycling. You're a natural triathlete.![]()

Great job KG!

Today I went and did 8 miles, didn't leave until 7pm when the sun was starting to go down (temp today was about 92 and humid... ahhh Houston!), the first lap (3 miles) sucked... my legs and lungs felt fine, it is my stomach that doesn't do too well. the last 5miles got better as it got a bit cooler. Total run time was about 1:25-1:30, a bit slower than normal due to the heat and more walking...
I need some accountability for my training...I am running my second half marathon in a month and the training is VERY far behind! Before today my longest training run this time around was 6 miles. The problem is that this is the first summer that I am running in the Houston heat and humidity and I am NOT getting along with it at all!
over all I think that I will be fine for the 1/2, but it might not be pretty. The thing that I think will help me is that it is in SF, so it will be nice and cool as opposed to the oppressive heat and humidity I have been training in.
This weeks plan: spin Monday and Thursday, tennis or spin on Tuesday, run on Wed (probably tread mill with hills), and long run either Sat or Sunday... going to try to get in 9 miles this week. I want to peak the way I did for the last one with doing 11 miles 2 weeks before the 1/2, and then take a week off... I also found that I did really well for the last 1/2 with only running about twice a week and doing spin class and biking the other workout days... kept the pounding on my knees down.
any suggestions as for ways to keep my tummy from feeling like crap in the heat? I have tried not eating, eating, drinking different things... nothing seems to help.
DrBadger, when I was cycling in the heat I used Endurox in one of my bottles. That would be impractical for running though. I am a heat wuss so I can relate! Maybe call a running or tri store in a hot climate and ask what they recommend? SF temperature might be great esp if you are used to warmer. My first half-marathon was in May and it was in Alameda. It was really pleasant. I was just down in Oakland tonight and it was downright cold!!! I will hope for the best.
I ran a track workout today. It's been a while and I can confidently say I ran until I couldn't really run much more. It's good though, I am so impatient to start increasing my speed.
kg, fantastic job
Wahine, I bet you had more fun windsurfing anyway![]()
