I use loose toe clips for my commute (4-10 miles each way). I can't be bothered to carry extra shoes (I have nice shoes at work, but I don't like to walk in them at lunch or whatever).
I'm a huge PowerGrip strap fan myself. I use them on both my bikes.
You are not so much 'trapped' on your pedal, but you also can't accidentally slip off the pedal. Love them.

I use strapless toe clips on my commuter. They're much easier to get into and out of than regular toe clips or clipless pedals.
Edit: Sorry if the link doesn't work. I'm using a computer at my sister's, and things aren't the same as on my computer. Just google "mini toe clips" to see them.

I used to have the power grips they are pretty good. the best thing about them is that you cannot break them by stepping on them.
