    Beginner Race/Camp

    Hi there,

I've always done a little riding (mostly mountain) here and there, but I decided that I wanted to be more dedicated this year. I just bought a RM Solo CXR....I decided on the cross bike because where I live, there's a lot of dirt roads!

Was wondering if anyone knows of any beginner races or camps for cyclocross? I'm totally new to the sport, but would love to meet some other x-ers and just go out there and have some fun!

    Cheers!

    Jane

Welcome! And congrats on the new bike.

I would start with your local bike shop to see if they offer any clinics for 'cross techniques. They may know of some locally held either by them, or a local club. This would be a great place for you to start.

Not sure about races in your area, but with the growing popularity of the sport, I can't imagine you will have to look too far!

    Enjoy.

I am wondering the same thing. I know that Stedman's in RI does stuff with cyclocross but I have been hesitant to approach for fear of looking like a total noob weenie. Because I really don't know much about it except it looks like a hoot.
I can do five more miles.

You can't learn if you don't ask! There is a terrific cross presence in RI, with some good racers. I think The Hub does some cross stuff (I know they sponsor a couple of racers...). Give them a look see.

Oh - and it is DEFINITELY a hoot! Give it a try.

My mom is pretty much clueless about bike stuff but she loves it there. I bought some x-mas gifts there and found everyone to be quite friendly, especially Jim.
...never met a bike that I didn't wanna ride.
