A tiny bit of bleach might do the trick - not too much cause it will damage the stretchiness of your socks

I like thin ankle socks. Just bought a new pair of Nike Shox. Wore and washed them once and now they are more of a shade of light gray. And mind you I didn't wear them through a rainstorm and get road grime all over them. They were white heading into the wash.
Any thin socks (preferable ankle socks) that stay white through the wash?

I like the unpadded sole Smartwool socks, but they are naturally more of a sheep color of white, kind of ivory. Otherwise, all of the thin cotton/poly blend white athletic socks I have purchased at Wal-Mart have stayed nice and white. I don't use bleach. I rarely use "Biz". And of course, I don't wash any colored clothes with my whites. Some fabrics turn color if you use the wrong type of bleach for the fabric. (I turned a white poly cotton jeans jacket kind of yellowy once doing that). Very annoying to ruin new clothes! good luck. Tokie
Ah, I was thinking of trying the SwartWool socks, as some folks have been raving about them. I don't mind if they aren't bright white. I just don't want them to look like dirty, stained socks after their first washing.
