I love your title.
I think we got ours from Google.

I have a new laptop and need to download a spellchecker program for use with IE and this forum.
I can't recall what I used before but it came from someone or someplace on this forum? Any hint's, anyone?
Spellchecker, don't post without it.![]()

Wow, I like to know that too. I had no idea we could get a spellchecker that would check the forums. I thought there had to be one within the forum.
Anyway, I need it. A lot of times I open a email and use that spellchecker if I am not sure of a word, but lord knows I have probably mis-spelled many things without checking.

I think this is the toolbar we downloaded from Google. The spell checker button looks right.
We use Firefox as our browser, so make sure you get the one for IE if that's what you use.

I am so totally not a computer person or speller but when I reply to a post on TE there is a ABC with a check mark icon on the top of the reply box, upper right hand side. I down loaded my spell checker from there however I spell so badly and am so bad at grammar it barely puts a dent in my Engrish whoas.
V mentioning google caused me to remember that the checker was specifically aimed at IE. Most things google are a no-no here at work. The Google toolbar really screws things up.
This was what I had a pretty cool little tool.

I don't get the spell check button here on TE because I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser.
I like that the google one works with everything I do.
SK, I'm glad I triggered your memory.

When I go to do a post here on TE, there are red underlines under anything misspelled. Is that from Firefox or TE? I am not aware of downloading anything. It sure is helpful.

That's cool. I only get the red underlines after I click the button on the toolbar. I like it when it tells me no spelling errors were identified. I often misspell the. teh - e finger is quicker than h finger.Probably because I do t and h with the same finger. Obviously I never learned to type correctly.

Arg. I'm on motionbased looking in the TrailNetwork for uploads of the Tour Des Chutes. You should see the variations.
Apparently, it's very difficult to read the web site and understand the play on the word "Deschutes." Sheesh. www.tourdeschutes.com
I love this one: "de Chutes."
Someone told me that the best mispronunciation she has heard yet is "Des Cooties." Apparently, that person has never seen the letters "sch" strung together.

Firefox has a built-in spellchecker.
It doesn't like the word spellchecker.

"teh" is an easy one to do when you're typing "correctly," too. Your left index finger is extended and the middle finger wants to just follow right along. (hte is very easy too - I just did it- what's hard is trying to wedge the "h" in between those two left-handed letters.) I type "teh" all the time, and I type circa 130 wpm, textbook method.
I use Firefox's built-in spell checker (or MS Word's - I HATE that application, but the spelling/grammar checker is useful). But the things that a spell checker will catch are not usually the typos I miss, anyhow. Inverted or mis-inserted words are a big one - the remains of incomplete editing. I get those even when I'm transcribing. There's no substitute for proofreading! Fortunately on a message board it doesn't matter (see the thread about spelling and grammar witches!)![]()

The thing I like about Word is the auto-correct. If Firefox had that, I'd be golden. But like I said before, most of the typos that I leave behind are due to poor eyesight! I was a transcriptionist in a former life.
By the way, don't watch Fox News with the closed captioning on (I was at the bank--I don't actually WATCH Fox News). You'll get the wrong message if that's you're only source.
