Wow... I read the first few lines and then said to the family - you have to listen to this guy!
It has to be one of the more ignorant things I have seen in some time
In terms of spectator interest...
- (the millions by the sides of the roads (eg 1/2 mill in Germany stage), the TV spectators/coverage, the advertising dollars etc etc -
... this event is the single BIGGEST annual sporting event in the world
In fact, it is my understanding that it is only surpassed in interest and dollars by two other events - the Soccer World Cup and the Olympic Games - both every four years
As for Eric Zorn... I wonder when the aliens will be returning to remove their probe!
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
"I will try again tomorrow".
Well, he certainly got alot of people to read his column, didn't he!! What a dingleberry!

Thanks for the insight Mr. Ed.
"Only the meek get pinched, the bold survive"
Yea, it's dull for **him** - therefore it's stupid. Forget the rest of the world - they don't exist. Couldn't be *him* that's too dull to contemplate something more complicated than a marathon, or to look deeper into it.
I reckon he needed a column topic and spewed this one out to get the assignment done - or maybe he wanted to be a shining example of an "ugly american," looking down (his nose) on others and telling them how to do things.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".
