    Bricks refer to training on two disciplines during the same workout, one after the other with minimal or no interruption in between, just as you would do in a race. Usually when people talk about bricks they refer to a bike/run workout, but bricks could also refer to a swim/bike workout or to a run/bike workout (if you are training for a duathlon).

    They suck! But in a good way

    Got in 6 miles today -- was supposed to be 4 miles, but I dropped my sunglasses somewhere on the trail, and had to go back to find them. Whew -- they they were, untouched, right in the middle of the trail! So, couple of miles extra, and the dog got to pass the creek two extra times which made her day!

    Well, in that case I did sort of a "mini-brick" today--rode my bike to some local trails (took just over 15 min. to get there), ran the trails for half an hour then rode home. I like running there and had usually driven over there before but with gas prices being what they are, just couldn't justify doing so now. So I decided to start riding there instead since it's not that far--makes a good workout and doesn't use any gas!

    Ran a social paced 5 miles yesterday. It felt really good!!! The fantastic thing (or sucky thing, however you look at it) was that when I finished, I had averaged a 10:02 mile. I didn't try to go fast but I want that sub-ten minute mile, OH how I want it.

    DH was nice and said it was from waiting for cars. There were a few instances where I had to slow down to let a car cross.

    I wasn't trying for anything special but there is still this air of excitement when I look at my HRM at the end of my run

    I worked at home yesterday, and it was SO NICE out (a "cold front" came through bringing cooler temps and low humidity) I did a little trail run on my lunch hour...only about 2.5 miles running, .5 walking, but it felt really good to be outside in the woods. I honestly thought running outside was done until fall, but yesterday actually felt like fall!

    Tomorrow, it's back to the treadmill for me...

    Ten miles today. I should've known to scrap it but my day wasn't going as planned (was going to swim but then realized it would be a less than intelligent choice) and I wanted to do something. Anything.

    It was hot out, at least for me. My water bottle leaked. I was tired and just not into it. I was getting that hot/dizzy/cold fatigue feeling. Maybe I should've eaten before. Maybe I was dehydrated. I don't know.

    Anyway, I did it but was down to mostly walking by the end. Every time I tried to run, even slowly, my heart rate would go WAY up and my muscles would feel ineffective.

    Ah well, tomorrow is another day. And, I had plenty of chocolate milk when I got home

    Chocolate milk -- yum! You sure deserved it after 10 miles, teigyr!

    I ran 4.5 on the treadmill today and felt absolutely wonderful. Could have gone longer but had to catch a shower and get back to work. It was just one of those good days where the endorphins kicked in and for that little bit of time, life was very, very good. I know most of you hate the treadmill, but for me it's nice because it is in a climate-controlled gym (I get SO hot outside), and I can just find my pace, put on my music, and GO.

    Geez, this week is getting long!

    Ran one mile, all uphill, tonight, for the coolest event ever: http://www.chipsnotdeadyet.com/

    The thing raised over $150,000 for the kids' hospital. There were over 2,300 people running up that mile-long hill.

    There was a timed race for elite runners, "winner takes all $20,000" - quite impressive. I just ran with the "Bahamas Bridal Dash," with 400 other people, and LOTS of women in their wedding dress (or something bridal anyway). I had mine on too. Really fun. My sweetie brought me fresh flowers, which was nice.

    Running in a polyester dress makes you appreciate technical, wicking fabric!!

    Ahh, the post-run benefits! I did five miles of run/walk this morning. Felt good - I haven't been running as much the past few weeks. IT band has been acting up and the inside of my knee and my hip have been hurting off and on, so I've been stretching and using the foam roller and cutting back on the running a little.

    After I finished today, I got to have a nice slice of cherry pie - my all-time favorite! No guilt - gotta recharge the carbs. I sure do love running.

    Did about a 1 hr 20 min trail run (with a few walking breaks) this afternoon, and got caught in a thunderstorm near the end! By the time I got back to where I had started, I looked like I had gone for a swim instead of a run, but I must say the rain was refreshing. Also tripped over a root and took a spill a few minutes before the storm started--one of those klutzy moments.
