First the milestone: I've ridden 1000 miles on my new road bike! As of today. I bought it March 26th.
And I know many people have posted things along similar lines, but my body shape is changing. I've gained a little weight (actually, gained back about 4 of the 7 lbs I had lost) but seem to be thinner. My pants seem really loose and my butt is more shapely. This seems to have happened sometime in the last week without me noticing. About two weeks ago I started concentrating on my pedalling more - making sure I was pulling back and up with each stroke - and it was like an instant fanny lift. I feel like I should be making an infomercial for this fabulous fitness gadget - the bicycle!

Life is Good!
If you must step on the scale repeat to yourself:
Muscle weighs more than fat. Muscle weighs more than fat.
Congrats on your more shapely physique! It's my second-favorite side effect of cycling-the first being mental well-being benefits.![]()
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.
I vote for staying off the scale as much as possible. My weight hasn't moved much this year, but I've lost 4 inches from my waist.![]()
In my case I must keep an eye on the scale to make sure I don't loose too much weight or dehydrate... I'm 5'4" and last week at 120 lbs I went for a ride... and came back at 115. That was a warning!!! Drinking enough I usually can manage, but eating enough is hard. I can't eat more than a normal meal at a time, so I must get 5 a day!!! Thank God I love eating...Originally Posted by latelatebloomer
I was not fat at all before starting to ride but the effect on my butt is impressive, too! And I just crashed into the 1000 miles milestone, too!! I guess that's a treshold... I find my calves and thighs to be more defined because of less fat, but not quite muscular. I think I'll have to do separate muscle-work. That should help on the hills, too...
And congrats!!! to all for the nice changes and good luck with the oncoming challenges...
