I'd either be submitting an expense report, or tracking all my mileage and writing it off on my taxes. Even if they're paying you a very handsome salary, you're "donating" a lot to the firm. Donation!? Maybe you can ask them to have a company car available to you (that lives in the office and only fuel for office errands) and commute to work by bike. The university where I work reimburses at a rate of 50.5 cents per mile, which is the same rate set by the US General Services Administration.
