Anyone else have a TREK 1000 from 2004?

I know my husband wouldn't let me get a bike that didn't have at least Ultegra-level components. (I have a 2004 Specialized Roubaix Elite.) He had racing buddies with 105 set ups and I guess they didn't last well. He's had the same Ultegra components for about 10 years and they still work great.

When I first got my bike, both derailleurs were kind of sketchy and I would have nasty noises in some places, but I got it tuned up about 3 months ago and haven't had another problem with it since.

Hhhhuuummmm... you gals used some terms that made my head spin... as I am not too "technical" when it comes to components on these bikes.

Technotart... thanks for offering up his help! Unfortunately, I am taking the bike up to the shop tonight... to upgrade the computer. But... maybe another time... before August?

Yea, I figured I would have to get a more expensive bike... as I got better and needed better gearing.

Well then, maybe my next gear set will be an ultegra - that's what my son recommends as the minimum for anyone who is going to race or do this seriously or frequently!

I have a Trek 1200 and a Lemond Zurich. Completely night and day when it comes to the gearing. The Zurich is complete ultegra/ultegra 10 and I certainly feel the difference (and go faster). I haven't had the gearing issue you mentioned in the 1200.

A guy at the bike shop showed me how to slightly move the derailer with my left brake shifter.

I am going to try that to see if that fixes the issue.

Otherwise... I know that next time... I get better gearing on my bike! Now that I know I love to ride... I would be willing to invest in a bike!

On another note... I upgraded my computer... and damn if they didn't screw up the wires (it is wired right, but a very sloppy job)... and they didn't give me back my old harness for my old computer (I wanted to give it to a friend)!

That sloppy wiring is going to GLARE at me!

I have a 2005 Trek, no gearing problems yet, however I'm thinking of upgrading gears, etc. wondering if I should just buy another bike. What is more expensive. I like most people have bills to pay and kids to feed so I don't want to go into the poor house on this.

well, they will fix it - and if they won't Corey will. I'd make em do it right, AND I'd ask for the old wiring! They'll give it to ya - or they should!
