Like last year, i was one of the volunteers; our job was to ride ahead to a station, and then wait for everyone to pass and point the way. Like last year it was absolutely silent , not counting a few horn honks from annoyed motorists.
There were about 150 people (I'm not good at counting) including a large contingent of Byrne race team. These guys had a lot of trouble maintaining the 12 mph speed limit. I saw more than one of them doing bunny hops down the road, bristling with energy.
There were a lot of very serious riders out there; tonight i dedicated my ride to Mary_QFC and her GF.

the rain threatened us the whole time and finally started coming down the last mile or so.
I wish we had one in Kelowna. How does one organize such an event?

Go to the ROS site and they tell you how to organized a ride. All you need is a small group of riders and that will be the beginning of something that can become larger every year.

This was our 3rd one in Pendleton. We only had about 10 of us, as the wind was howling and rain threatened. We ended up by cutting our route shorter than planned when said rain started pelting us. We always wear buttons featuring a woman who was killed in August of 2005. This is so very meaningful to her widower. He was actively involved in getting legislation in OR which stiffens punishment for injuries to non-motorized users of OR roadways and the 3-foot law.

that's neat. they just struck down that legislation here in washington because it's too ambiguous (3 foot rule)
