young cat to the rainbow bridge

We foster at least one litter of kittens every year. When we place each of the furry bundle of joy, they each get a microchip for identification, emergency contact. The usual information.

Well my fear came true early this morning like 4:00AM. I got a call from Animal Emergency Hopital. It was one of the kittens I really wanted to keep three years ago. There was something magical about his personality. So affectionate, so sweet but at the same time there was this loving mischivous attitude. And so smart. I knew it wouldn't be fair to him to become part of my family and have to share me with all the other cats. He was really special. He deserved his own owner an not have to share. So with tear of joy and saddness, we adopted him out to a very nice family where we knew he would be pampered and loved.

He somehow got out and was hit and killed by a car late last night. The driver was kind enough to rush him to the hospital but they really couldn't do much for him. Only thing they could do was get his information off his microchip. Microchip information has my name, my phone number as the primary owner. People who adopt the kittens are listed as a secondary contact. I gave the adopting family's name, their phone number to the emergency vet and asked to call me back if the information was out of date.

Please give your warm thoughts to the family who have lost a really wonderful boy cat. When he was with me, his name was Simon. He just turned three. I haven't seen him since he was adopted out nearly three years ago but I still miss him terribly.

    Thank you for listening

How sad! What is it about boy kitties wanting to get out? My Tucker cat makes a beeline for the door when I feed my outside ferals in the morning. Cassie could care less. I'm on to him and his sneaky ways though. Although he is so fast he still gets out sometimes. He doesn't usually go very far, fortunately.

I don't think I could be a foster parent. It would be hard to say good bye.

You are a special person to have helped Simon while he was here. His angel must have scooped him up and taken him to a beautiful garden where he can watch the butterflies. I'm so sorry you lost one of your fosters. I'm sending you a hug from me and the furkids.

Smilingcat: I'm so sorry about little Simon. It's funny how each one can touch you in such different, yet memorable ways. What you do is fantastic. But so difficult. Hugs to you and the most recent family.
