    Cycling in Spain

I'll be spending several days in La Palma, Spain next month, and really want to get some riding in. MTB isn't really my forte, but it's the only sort of rental I've found online...perhaps its time to tackle a new adventure. Is anyone familiar with the cycling scene there?

I don't know much about mt biking, but if you are talking about La Palma in Andalucia (there is another one too, in Murcia) I highly recommend riding up to the Parque Del Torcal De Antequera - its about 10 or 12 miles (I think...) south of the town of Antequera on the A-6311. Its a beautiful climb and the park itself is otherworldly. You don't need a mt bike to make the climb, most of it is on paved road, though the last mile of two is hard packed gravel (it was manageable on a skinny tire touring bike).

I also recommend going to see the Alhambra in Granada if you have any opportunity, but that doesn't have anything to do with cycling.

The most beutiful cycling I ever did in spain was along the mediterranean coast (Costa Brava), north of barcelona. We stayed in St. Feliu, and from there you could ride up and down the coast with the ocean on one side, and the foothills of the pyrenes on the other, and of course you could venture up the mountains.

I don't know anything about rentals. We brought our road bikes with us. But we did notice that when we inquired about bike route maps, etc. we were pointed to mountain bike paths. When we told them we were interested in road riding, we were pointed to the road and told to just ride. Perhaps if you post this in the international section someone from Spain can help you with rentals. Did you try googling road cycling spain, etc.?

We're headed for La Palma in the Canary Islands, goodness knows I'd be all over the mainland if I had more time and it weren't a family trip. I will definitely look for the international section, thanks for the replies!

    Cycling in La Palma

    Hi,
this is my first time in this forum, and I have read your post. I am Spanish, so I think I can help you!!

if you are going to La Palma, that is the Canary Island. There is another place, call Las Palmas, also in the Canary islands... and anoother one, Palma de Mallorca, in Baleares (in the mediterranean ocean).

But you will probablly be going to La Palma, one of my favourites places in Spain, such a lovely green and small but mountain island in the middle of the ocean, with great weather the whole year.

I know there is a MTB-ride around the island, let me look for it and I will send it to you.
or, if you find a road-cycle for rental... the roads are amazing over there... but there is no place for resting, I can tell you!!!

I will write again with more information.

    Regards
    Sonia
