Tour de Fest - Kimberly, Wisconsin

The first annual Tour de Fest bike tour will be happening July 16, in Kimberly, Wisc. as part of the 17th annual Paperfest celebration. The tour offers a choice of 3 routes - 18, 40 and 70 miles. Info can be found at http://www.paperfest.com/bicycle.html

Proceeds from Tour de Fest will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

For one of our training rides for Team in Training, we did the 70 mile route. It's very pretty and takes you along the east side of Lake Winnebago (for non-Wisconsinites, look on the east side of your Wisconsin map for the biggest lake you can see (that's not Lake Michicagn) north of Milwaukee and south of Green Bay) on some nice flat to rolling rural Wisconsin roads.

Paperfest is a great family event, will lots of different things to keep the non-cyclists busy while you're out on the ride!

Thanks for the info. It sounds like a nice event. I'm not working that weekend, so maybe I better think about signing up. I'm sure it will be a scenic ride around the lake.

My mother just marked the important 5 year anniversary since she was diagnosed with Lymphoma, ( as her doctor now says, she'll die with the disease but not from it) so this is a cause that I especially enjoy supporting.

Hope you can make it! And congrats on your mom's reaching that 5 year mark...my dad is at year 4 post-non-Hodgkins lymphoma treatment, so each Father's day is extra special.

I am not ready for the 70 mile ride but am doing the 40 mile ride.
This will be my first organized ride so if you see mass confustion on someone's face that day....it will be me

Watch out BIKEAWAY, you may end up becoming addicted to organized rides like I have. You'll meet alot of really friendly and encouraging riders. I've picked up a few great biking tips from talking to riders much better than myself.

I've also found that I'm not as bad as I thought I was. Twice I've had women come up to me at rest stops and say that they enjoyed following behind me because I kept a nice pace. I enjoy hills more on organized rides. It's a good feeling to easily pull past a few of the young biker boys, (who have just passed you on the downhill), when you get halfway up.

I find that the distance is so much easier when you're riding with hundreds of other riders than all alone. Of course, all the good snacks and socializing at the rest stops doesn't hurt any either.

Maybe any TE members planning on going to the ride should get together for a finish line drink together.

I am really looking forward to this ride too. The few friends I have will not ride this far or interested in a ride like this so I am alone but that is okay. When I bought a new bike from the Recycler in Kaukauna-I was told about this ride so I kinda set this ride as a marker for my training. My daughter was going too but droped training too so I will go solo.

I noticed on a ride event website that the Titletown Bike Tour is the next day in Green Bay.....I guess I'd be getting a little carried away if I made a whole weekend out of it up there.

How lucky....Door County is a great place to get some riding miles in. With the beautiful scenery and nice towns, the miles can rack up without even noticing.

I'll probably do the Titletown ride, but since I already missed the early registration deadline, I guess there's no hurry to make up my mind.

Well, it looks like we're going to have a nice HOT biking weekend for the Tour de Fest and Titletown Tour.

I've decided to make it a "Me Weekend". No husband, no daughter, no dog or cat to take care of. I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm doing the 70 mile route on Sat., hanging out at Paper Fest for awhile, and then going up to Green Bay. I'll get a hotel room and spend some relaxing time in the hot tub, eat a good carb loaded dinner, and lounge around reading a good book.

I hope to do the 100k on Sunday. If it gets unbearably hot I guess I might end up doing one of the shorter routes.

Hope all of you who are planning to do these rides have a good time and don't get too overheated.

Hey BIKEAWAY it was nice to meet up with you and ride for a few miles on Saturday. Quite strange that without any pre-planning we'd run into each other. You'll definitely want to think about doing the 70 route next year. It was really scenic and there was even a bit of a breeze off the lake.

Thanks for the tip about checking out the Recyclist. Nice shop and very friendly people. I really enjoyed relaxing on the couch in front of the fan with a cold beer, before finishing off the ride.

The Titletown Tour was a lot of fun as well. Except for maybe the last 15-20 miles....it was just too darn HOT for a 100k.

I hope we get the chance to ride together again.

Sorry I was off a few days from work.
I really kicked myself too for just not following you. It was great meeting you too and I would really love riding a entire ride with you sometime.
I heard there is a Kettle Moraine ride in fall? That would be a middle ground...
I have been practicing my hills and next week I am heading up to Door County again for an entire week this time and plan on riding at least 25-60 miles per day so I think I could be ready...
You are right-I am really getting excited to start participating more in organized rides if the weather could just break...
Keep me updated if you do another ride in Wisconsin.
