I think I would prefer a pair of long loose-fitting shorts, or knee-length capri, over lycra shorts. I re-entered cycling last year on a hybrid and at the time I bought a pair of C9 capris at Target. They've served me well and are very comfortable, but the flared hem occasionally catches on the bottle cage. I'm considering cutting the legs and hemming them to just at the knee which is where they come when I roll them up. I'm fair-skinned and would prefer the extra protection and comfort over fashion.
Can anyone recommend a brand you like? I like the look of long MTB shorts, or some of the shorter capri pants that come to the knee.

I've been itching to get a pair of Loeka shorts. Haven't tried them, but they look nice!

I tried these on last weekend and really liked the way that they fit.
I got a pair of those Pearl Izumi Versa capris that you told us about in a previous post. I haven't ridden in them yet, but I will. They are cute, but the interior shorts seem a bit too short (can't see them, but I can feel them). We'll see if it becomes an issue.

Yen, I recently purchased these from Terry. It has a roomy full leg, it's stretchy and come with a removable meshy liner. These capris hit about mid calf on me (I'm 5'6"). I don't know how bomb proof they are, but they make great 'tween season wear. There are nice details to this capri--reflective tape, snaps at the knees, wide waist band, and cargo pockets. This style is also available in a baggy short with a 10" inseam. If you order this, order one size down.![]()
These look interesting. Haven't tried them, but I may use my 20% off coupon and give them a shot.
Helloooo? Anyone shop at our own TE? I've wanted to try Mt. Borah baggies, think they are even made in the good ol' USA

I bought those PI Versa capris from TE. They are too big, though, so I'm going to return them. No time to get another size before my trip, though.
I've got a pair of those which I have worn for more thqn two seasons. You have to be careful putting them on, though; I managed to put my finger right through the delicate inner liner the first time I put them on. They've held together just fine in spite of the breach. Very comfy shorts.
I spent a good amount of time shopping last night and think I've narrowed my choice down to these.
Not exactly baggy but not tight lycra road shorts.
