Our city and cycling advocacy group get together on May 16. We don't have teams, but there are five locations around town that you can stop at that day on your morning commute and get a free breakfast burrito!

I've been commuting in 2-3 days/week (only 12 mi round trip). But instead of stuff falling from the sky, Albuquerque has sand and dirt flying thru the air. Wind is blowing 25-30mph now w/ gusts up to 50! I drove today. Getting flung into other lanes or parked cars unexpectedly is not too fun!

I forgot to add I am the "guru" at my job though, so I'm promoting all things bike. We have a wonderful trail just down the street that links up with Black Hill Regional Park so I ride there a bit. I've posted the flyers for this years event and hope I get some takers.
once again I am unemployed but I think I'll bike to the meet ups. I don't think I'll be biking in my graduation dress/ gown. I'm already an accident waiting to happen; let's not make me a dressed up accident.
But MS - if I can wear a veil, you can wear a mortarboard!
I have not biked to work yet because:
1. I was waiting for my blinky light from TE (it came today - yay!)
2. I need my car periodically to drive from school-to-school.
So....NEXT WEEK I plan to ride to work twice - Wed & Thur, probably. I need the car Monday, Tuesday & maybe Friday. Stay tuned! Gas is up to $3.55/gal here now.![]()

i've been meaning to say congratulations- so congratulations!
does your artsy friend have a way to attach my motarboard to my helmet? I won't ride without it.
I'm the only one at my office who is commuting by bike, so I've registered as an "individual" team.
The commute is 5-6 miles, depending on my route, and it's downhill in the morning, uphill in the afternoon (oof!).
It's a nice, doable distance for me, as I am currently going from being injured and unable to do much (from an accident 2 years ago) to being just a bit sore and stiff but nowhere near the fitness level I had before my accident. (Didn't do much cardio during PT, but was somehow very tired after each workout)
Last week I just did a one-way commute -- my Dahon rode home in the trunk of DH's car. Yesterday was my first round-trip commute. Had to walk a couple of the hills and stopped for a good rest and peeling-off-the-layers when I was just 10 blocks from home.
Planning to add a bit more each week. I think my goals for the summer are just building stamina and getting better at climbing.
In Columbia, MO today was the kickoff celebration of the 7th annual Bike Walk & Wheel week (BWWW). Our mayor is an avid commuter and started this to get people to consider active transportation. The goal this year is to get 5000 people to sign up and participate, we had about 3500 last year. There are lots of scheduled events including breakfast stations, scavenger hunts, organized rides, bike maintenance classes etc.. This should be the best year yet.![]()
Providence RI has bike to work day May 16th. I'll be leading the long n hilly 33 mile commute from South County up to the big city. Meantime, I'm commuting to varying bus stops about three days a week. I have my choice of six, eleven, or fifteen miles to catch the bus. I have been upping my miles to train for the Tour De Cure June 1st.
I can do five more miles.
I don't have a job, but I did finally get to ride my bike to boot camp this morning! It's all about the weather for me, and daylight. It's less than 3 miles, but three miles when it's less than 30 degrees is just too much for me!

Spokane is finally getting on the ball with cycling. We have over 500 people registered for bike to work week and lots of activities planned. May 12 - 16 is bike to work week here. I volunteered to lead a ride to downtown a couple of days that week. There's a Road One class offered, which I'm taking and a number of workshops around town this month for new commuter. May be the $3.59 gas price is a good thing if it means more people riding their bikes.
I'm very excited about bike to work week! I miss out the planned this year, but plan to be more involved next year. bikerHen
Wow, it sounds like all sorts of fun stuff happens in Bike to Work Month and on Bike to Work Day -- you'd never know it around here, though.
Boston has a big shindig on the May 16, but for those of us in the "boonies" (20 miles from Boston), zippo. It's like the local towns and businesses don't even know bike commuting exists. I put up a sign at work. Typical coworker response: "I live 60 miles from work. I'd never ride my bike." Well gee, who made you live so darn far from work?
I'll be biking to work 4 days a week as usual this month, but ironically on Bike to Work Day I'll probably drive. I've been taking Fridays as a rest day, what with riding 100+ training miles on weekends. But if there's anybody else in the Metro West area commuting this month I'd love to hook up, even for just a few miles!![]()
Kfergos, I am riding on the 16th from Concord (near the rotary) to Hudson. I signed up as a team of one, since as you said, nothing going on here in the 'burbs. I sent out an email to the entire staff at my school, with a link to the Mass Bike site and all of the safety information about commuting. I said I would be commuting on Tuesday and Friday next week and I will lead a 10 mile ride after school on Thursday. I have 3 people signed up for the after school ride and one person who is going to commute in. A couple told me I was nuts...
Most of my colleagues are younger than me and in fairly good shape. I planned the after school ride because some do live far away. I hope I get more people. At the most, maybe I've raised someone's consciousness.
Well I rode to school (work) despite the fact that it took a LOT of reorganizing of my life to do so. I had an eye appt 15 minutes after work and DH had an appt after work as well. We all rode to school together in the morning (only 3.5km), then he rode home and got the van and picked up my son (who can't handle the looooong climb home). I rode like the wind to my eye appt after school (only 5km. )Then I rode from there to the YMCA (12km) so I could do my 1200m swim workout. Then I rode 10km downtown to meet DH and son at son's baseball game. Grabbed a sandwich along the way because it was 6pm by the time I got there. Watched the game and threw my bike in the car to come home. 32km for the day. Sigh. I don't think I do this everyday. The hard part was trying to figure out how to carry all my stuff and what stuff I could leave at home.

Yea, commuting does take committment. If it's raining dogs and cats first thing in morning.. I don't kid myself. I don't bike. Already my commute without bike takes 1.5 hrs. one-way. With bike part-way, it's 2 hrs. 1-way. Sometimes I question my sanity.....
I have to leave home at around 5:30 am....regardless of bike or no bike....so no point making myself miserable, if I start off wet as a dog.
And yes, there 1-2 guys who live not far from me and they commute by car to same place. But I'd rather be free to travel on my own time..and I know they would also...since they work more bizarre after-hrs. compared to me.
