Looking for recipes...
I am looking for a homemade vegan protein bar recipe. I need something low on the sugar (or that won't be too adversely affected by the removal of sugar or replaceable with something like agave syrup) and high on the protein.
Clif has a new protein bar that tastes great, but it's almost $2/bar.
Thanks!

The THRIVE diet and recipe book has a lot of vegan bar recipes- I have tried a few- some were definitely better than others- I think most of them utilized his vegan protein powder in the recipe which has a particular taste- can't really describe it but it might not be for everyone. I think the few I tried also used dates/figs as a base. My husband refers to one batch as the "poop" bars- yuck- we still haven't finshed those! LOL
There were lots of recipes though and if you were interested it might be a worthwhile investment (for the book)
When I have more time I will try to copy a few of them for you.

Lara bars are on the pricey side (and are a bit high in fat for actual during-sports use, in my opinion), but I believe they are vegan and they are definitely tasty.
They are made almost exclusively of dried fruits and nuts -- it would probably not be too hard to make something like this at home, as long as you have a health food store that sells dates in bulk (do they sell dates at the grocery store? I feel like either they don't or they're sold in small expensive containers?).
This is messy, but pitted medjool dates stuffed with cashew butter are way yummy...

Thanks for the suggestions! I will look for the THRIVE recipes...
Where on earth will I find medjool dates in Las Cruces? :-)
Guess it's time for a trip upstate... !
Here is a link to a date shop maybe, I am pretty bad with links. Anyway the Palm Springs area is full of date palms so dates are easy to find here. I hope this helps.http://www.hadleyfruitorchards.com/
