I am definitely in again. This is a good motivator for me.
No reward, and I assume you want a starting weight on Friday 5/2, or is it this Friday, the 25th?
Also, I think 8 weeks is perfect.

OK, since we are coming to the close of the second weight loss challenge, I thought it might be time to get us thinking about challenge number 3.
Here's the code ("which are more like guidelines, anyway"):
1) Weigh-in day on Fridays.
2) Person with the most % of starting weight lost is the winner.
3) Those not winning who accepted the 'reward challenge' will agree to send the winner whatever item is selected by the group.
4) Anyone is free to join, but to be part of the 'reward' group, you must make all the weigh-in's.
5) 8 weeks long (subject to agreement by everyone)
6) After each weigh in, I'll post an updated tracking chart so we can all keep tabs on each other's progress.
7) Everyone is required to HAVE FUN with this!Seriously, there is NO pressure...we don't care if you gain one week...it's the journey that counts, not the number on the scale. (Look at me, I'm still here, and I did nothing over the last challenge except GAIN
)
If you want to join us, post here saying if you want to do Reward or No Reward and be prepared to post a starting weight next Friday. Also, if you have ideas for a good reward item, we'd like to hear that, too.
8 weeks makes the final weigh-in on June 20th. Do we think that's good? Or do we want to do a shorter period or a longer one? I'm game for anything.

I think we can use our 'final weight' from the last challenge (on 5/25) as the starting weight for this one?
Or am I looking at that in the wrong way? I'm cool with whatever the majority wants to do!![]()

Sign me up and for a reward, too. 8 weeks is great. That takes me to 1 week prior to my first race. PERFECT! I'll have to decide what my goal will be.
THANKS for taking this on GLC!!!!! You'll have to enlighten me on how you post that tracking chart! I am clueless as to how to get one on here!

I'm in. No reward.
LOL, I'm in but have no idea why. I can't believe that first two are done and I still haven't lost anything.

I'm in, no reward. I am SO frustrated with my weight I could scream! When is the first weigh in day? Tomorrow or next week?
I'm not in, because I've already lost my weight, but I have a thought about this:
2) Person with the most % of starting weight lost is the winner.
It would seem to me that it would be better to focus on individual goals. So at the beginning, everyone would state what their goal is, and the people who meet their goals all win. The goal should be realistic but doable.
So for example, say my goal for this month was to lose 8 lbs. If I meet my goal, then I win. That way, lots of people are "winners." If I didn't meet my goal (or if I exceeded it), I would adjust my goal for the next time.
This would work better for me than % of starting weight. If I'm off base, just tell me to mind my own business.
Good luck, everybody!
I better sign up for this one
I like the accountablility- otherwise I can go months without getting on the scale so the lbs can creep up.
No reward for me though.

Tulip - I think that's true, but at the same time, if we do a 'reward' it'll be hard to be objective if we all have different goals. % of starting weight is an easily comparable metric. And if we are all 'winners' (which we are anyway...just for playing!), then how do we decide to whom we send the water bottle or the socks or the whatever?
Then again, since so far most people are choosing 'no reward', maybe that's a better way of doing this anyway?
It's up to you guys. I'm still months away from my final goal, so any motivation and accountability I can get is worthwhile.![]()

I would like to alternate pounds lost vs. percent lost because I think it would be motivating for the heavier riders to be at the top of the list once in a while. :-) Also, weight can be affected by many factors, some hormonal, some dietary, so different ways of measuring success from contest to contest would be great. :-)
I would like to join...and put me down for a reward. I didnt join the first two can I still do this one?
I'll give it another try, so please put me down again, but no reward.
I'm in again!
This is actually weight loss challenge #4. The first one didn't have a reward challenge. #2 did a water bottle reward, and #3 was a pair of bike socks reward.
I have been in all four, and each time did a little worse - LOL! And I am out one water bottle and a pair of socks.
But I am not giving up - I am in this for the long haul. Maybe this time will be the charm.
I will do either a challenge or non-challenge, whatever the group wants. I just want to have a place where I can stay accountable.

OK, I'm off to buy a Tanita body comp scale today. Anyone have a particular model they recommend? I am the same weight I was this time last year. I had my body comp tested at the local fitness centre and it was fairly thorough but I was disheartened to find I was STILL at 30% body fat. I'm sure I'm down from that now, even though I'm the same weight so I am I going to get it done again in June to see. In the meantime, I used the machine at the drug store and it said I was 27.8% (at that time). I know, they are not reliable, but I thought maybe if I did it at the same time very week, under similar conditions, maybe I could tell if I was losing fat and gaining muscle.
