DC Breast Cancer Walk Needs You!

I originally posted this in the mid-Atlantic forum, but realized that I'm travelling to do this, so others might want to travel to do this too!

    Hi Folks,

I've been in charge of the bicycle Route Safety crew the past two years in Atlanta, and on board for 2008. They've just added Washington DC to the list of cities, and I signed up to help get that city up to speed. But, we need more cyclists!!! We work side by side with the motorcycle crew, all in charge of keeping everyone safe, and spirits up. Part traffic cop, huge part cheerleader!

Excellent bike experience needed, ability to ride 40 miles a day, only incredibly cheerful, upbeat people with an authoritative edge need apply. No whiners allowed. It's amazingly hard work -- we're out before the first walker, and escort in the last walker each day, and camp out with the rest of the walkers and crew. I use my mountain bike so I can make sure I can follow wherever the walkers go -- Atlanta has us on dirt paths at times.

When you're not assigned to control traffic at an intersection, you're moving to your next intersection ahead of the walkers, cheering them on, keeping them safe (no headphones or cellphones while walking) and just having fun. Desire to wear a pink tutu for 3 days not necessary, but helpful.

All the information is here: www.3-day.org Sign up for DC crew, and after you're signed up, you'll get a crew assignment form that you'll select "Route Safety" and put "Bicycle Crew" in the comments.

Seriously, only positive, upbeat, take-charge types who can change their own flats need apply!

    Thanks!!!!!

    Amazing Experience

Hi all! PedalWench and I have talked about this before.
The Breast Cancer 3-Day is the most incredible experience, and I would very much recommend that anyone get involved in any way they can -- walker, crew, Cheerleader, supporter of a walker or crew!? ANYTHING. Just do it! You will be exhausted physically, emotionally, and yet so inspired and uplifted.

As a 3-time walker, I must say the support crew ROCKS and we love you all for being there!
    Everyone Deserves a Lifetime
