Thumbs up Happy Report: Just Stuff

    To disable ads, please log-in.

    Hi all,

I have been pretty whiney lately. Very demotivated for training; kinda tired; really, really sick of our weather; some sad events. BUT: yesterday was a really wonderful day, and I thought since I whine so much, I ought to post a happy report.

    1) It was SUNNY all afternoon! This is huge. The sun came out ALL afternoon.

    2) I sold a car that needed selling. It was my mom's before she died, and it was a lovely car. It was a little hard to sell, and I had not started trying yet. But, a super nice couple, friends of friends, wandered into the office and mentioned they were looking for a car. So, yesterday, they drove it, loved it, and bought it. That is a big relief for me, and I feel great about who bought it.

    3) One of my brothers helped me move all the big furntire into my new place. I can move everything else, but I needed a hand with the furniture, and I got it! Now I am free to putter along and move the rest. This furniture has been in storage since my parents died, and it was wonderful to get some pieces out for my new space. All of it is sentimental: my granny's cedar chest, my granny's desk, my grandfather's chest of drawers, my great aunt's rocker, my adopted granny's armoir, etc. It all looks right at home in the old farmhouse I'm renting.

    4) A very special dog got a great home! A couple weeks ago, a local police officer died, and I have been walking his dog ever since, feeling awful because she was not the right dog at the right time for me to adopt, but a lovely dog who needed a good home. Well, she found it! She is going to a great dog home: a huge yard, another dog she already knows and loves to play with, and a great owner who really takes care of her dogs. YAY!!! It is SUCH a relief.

Thanks for listening. It was just so wonderful to have a really full day of positive things!

I'm joining you :-) instead of having my own happy thread.

    Shopping!
    Ha, I went shopping today.

    I bought
    * a torque wrench because I now have lots of carbon parts to take care of
    * possibly the best pair of dressy pants from ZANK, a little shop by my house. They have a jersey wrap around the hips.
kindofa weird combination, except for a fellow cyclist.

The third thing that I hadn't posted yet in the other thread, and that is making me happy and excited is that I went looking at a house for sale. Maybe this is not the perfect one yet but DBF and I are ready to plunk down the cash on our own place. This one would be a bit of a leap of faith but it is in amazing surroundings for sports.

Starfish, what wonderful news! I can just feel the sun warming my cheeks as I read your post.

Can you post pics of your new little farmhouse when you get a chance? It sounds so cozy and ideal for you.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to it. Yesterday when we moved my stuff, we saw several deer, some bald eagles, and 2 elk, within about 250 yards of the house. ETA: Now I just have to get to where I can ride again. Did 36 miles today with 2467', and it about killed me, and took forever.

Yeah, I'll have to borrow a digital camera, but I can do that, and anyhow, I want to take some pics. No promise on when.

    wow, all wonderful stuff Starfish!

I am really happy today because not only did i have a great bike ride, but my out of shape friend in florida who just bought a bike a month ago just did her "dream ride" of 10 miles to a little cafe with her husband and 10 miles back home. she was ecstatic that she completed that ride.

I had a day of confronting difficulties so it's good to hear that things work out sometimes Hoping that my friend's daughter *does* find the right place to move to (OUT OF MY HOUSE) ...

    Ooooh, what a great thread!

Starfish, I'm happy that you're happy and that you have so many happy things happening in your life right now!

I'm happy because it was very beautiful and warm and sunny today and I did a somewhat challenging ride and my previously-injured-still-recovering ankle seemed to be happy too! Then when I got home, my neighbor, who is in her 80's, gave me a bunch of homemade jams and jellies and some pickled asparagus, which is unbelievably delicious. I spent about an hour out in the yard talking with her and it was quite enjoyable. She lost her husband last fall and I think she's pretty lonely. I hope having some company this afternoon made her day happier too!

I love happy threads! Thank you for starting this, starfish! I'm so glad you have things to be happy about! I do too!!

We started the day with a one hour bike ride, put a coat of paint on the mouldings, tried to find a new saddle ( no success, but that's okay ), got the warranty tune done on my new bike after 720km, it's a beautiful sunny day, I'm about to take the dogs for a walk ....and....
I just Sniped a camera on eBay and got it for almost $100 less than I thought I'd be paying (and $1600 less than I thought I'd have to before I got some technical advice).

Life is good! Happy dancing butterflies to all of you!
    And hugs, too,

    weee

Starfish-Sunshine's wonderful hey! Sunny days, chasin the clouds awayyyyy...

You're such a lovely person for taking the officer's doggie for walks. I'm sure the dog was grateful for another loving human to step in & give it some love

I had a wonderful Saturday & it's made me even more eager to push myself a bit further. I joined a small group of chickies doing an easy ride. A couple of ladies were just starting out & on hybrids but they managed to stay with us.

We made it to a long stretch of road where we were told by our fearless leader to push it. I led our little group for a bit & managed to get my speed to 25km/hr & stay there. It was hard & still rely on my left leg for power..but oh it felt so good to push myself (esp when it's not dark out)!!! (most of my rides now are in the dark) We had some great hills & they were wonderful!

As long as i don't move in my saddle or try & jump out of the saddle, my right leg is happy. Happy leg, happy bike ride=happy human

Happy day Starfish!!! It's darned near impossible to be crabby when the sun is out in the great PNW!

I had a happy day too today....went for a little ride this morning...15 miles in all...about killed me but I did it. My asthma's kicking up a notch what with all the pollen flying about, so it's difficult to breathe while I'm S L O W L Y climbing one of the many many hills around here. Anyhoo, did that, then cleaned the house (I love a clean house), then went mountain biking for a few hours with hubby and the kids. Climbed to the top of this ridge where we had the most spectacular view of Hood Canal and the snow covered Olympic Mountains. It was about 75 degrees, and so quiet you could only hear the wind in the trees and the faint faint hum of the boats on the water. It was about as perfect an afternoon as you could get.

Now, tomorrow will be 50 and rainy. Next weekend will be 44 and rainy. Back to reality!!

It has been two weeks since I last rode. Feeling really up to a nice hilly 20 miler today i was in aww. There are so many wild flowers right now. More then I have ever seen! Purple's, blue's yellow's, orange's, pink's and deep green's! This just really makes me want to go again tomorrow. I am at the very tail end of a cold that recked my nose and lungs so it was hard to ride. i am bringing my camera tomorrow morning I will post pictures of the hazey pink fields! What a treat!

Hey, guess what? Here is a little PS to my happy thread. Today, I was outside getting ready for a ride, and my neighbor was mowing his lawn. I made some comment about how I really ought to be mowing mine, too, given the one sunny day, and he said, "Hey, I'll take care of it, you just go out on your ride."

Do you love that? He mowed my lawn while I was out riding!

I rode all afternoon, and then I had to hurry and get dressed for a charity auction this evening, so I didn't get a chance to say thank you. So, coming home this evening I picked up a 6-pack of non-alcoholic beer and left it on the porch with a little "thank you" scrawled on it.
