Ever had weird things thrown @ you...

This story reminded me of when Ian & I were mtn biking near his uncle's house on the North Island in NZ (nz ladies-out back of Ohiwa harbour to Whakatane). Whilst stopped somewhere on a gravel road, Ian threw a dead possum @ me. Luckily it hadn't been run over, it was just dead..

    anywho...

    Poor hedgehog!

    Lessee,

Pennies, bottle of soda, rocks which reminds me-if you're a couple of kids don't throw rocks at someone on a mountain bike on the road because they might just chase you down through back yards and what-not and give you a good loud what-fer about cyclists being persons and not targets and make you wish to pieces you'd never done any such thing (yep, true), ice cubes, drink in styrofoam cup from ski lift above me, brick,

    that's some of it.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

Commuting through NE DC--I was chugging up a hill slowly and a few teenagers were on the sidewalk, laughing and joking around. As I passed, one of them rolled a big rock--bigger than a softball--into my front wheel. Luckily I didn't go down, but I was not a happy camper. I just kept going and changed my route after that.

Someone deliberately pitched a CD at Raleighdon it hit him in the sternum.

but the best one i know is a guy from Canada. he's 6'2" 200 pounds sort of dude. Someone threw a bag of ice at him, hit him in the chest. He had extensive bruising later. Lucky for the truck driver, he did NOT catch up to them. He did get their plates and report them..

Half-eaten hamburger--disgusting! It didn't actually hit me, but I was so shocked I didn't get the license plate number. I hope I'll have greater presence of mind if that sort of thing happens again.

    Sorry, horribly OT...

I really feel for both the boy and the hedgehog.

I couldn't resist some unproductive googling. But they are really cute:

A hedgehog with broken bones (after colliding with a cyclist?):

And finally, how to wash a hedgehog (you've always wondered):

Ok, sorry, I will go to work now!!!!

    Those hedgehogs are so cute!!

I had a boy throw a dead bird at me in grade school. Does that mean he liked me?

Assorted trash and soda/beer cans, the contents of a vehicle's ashtray, a dozen eggs in the carton. Yeesh!

I remember as a kid riding to school one morning with my friend, Robby. We had just ridden over a big speed bump in the road. A truck coming in the same direction never slowed down at all and lost his muffler and tail pipe. The pipe part spun around in the road, right where we were, and Robby's back tire went over the edge of it. It must have been searing hot because it melted his tire and blew the tube right there on the spot. It was the weirdest thing... and the guy never stopped. (this was a speed bump put in front of the school to slow drivers down. )
As for deliberate, I've had bottles, food, curse words, middle fingers, whole hands reach out and hit me...

I've been pretty lucky thus far (knocking furiously on wood)....
I've had only 2 instances that recall. Once, last fall, someone hurled a black walnut seed pod at me. That hurt like mad. Another time, I was shot at by someone with a pellet gun. Does that count as getting "thrown" at you??
One time, when I was a kid, by brother and I got this grand idea that it would be fun to play catch with a dart. He missed and ended up with a metal dart stuck in his cheek. Needless to say, that ended that game pretty quickly!

Well as a Sand scupltor I have had a lot thrown at me! My husband had a metal skewer thrown at him from a 2nd story in a mall. Landed right next to him. Scary!
Funny I just reminding him of that and he is walking around right now saying "fricken psychopath" I hope that kid is in jail! That was 20 years ago when that happend.
I had food, rocks, toys and balls thrown at me as well. Nice people out there. And this is while we are sculpting. Oh the best for me was when someone shot a marble at the sculpture with a gun and it hit the back of my leg. I had a huge welt! And this was shot from the other side of a wall at a fair we were at in Colorado. We saw the house where it came from. We told the police on the grounds and they went to the house but the kid denied it.
it was a good thing it had not hit me in the head it wouldd have knocked me out! You would not think Sand sculpting could be dangerous?

Thanks for the reality check. Why the heck would people throw stuff at someone minding their own business and not even on the road?!?!??

Ugh, I can't believe the items you've had tossed at you while on your bikes (or in the sand). Yikes! So far (knock on wood) I've only had to deal with two close calls in which drivers seemed to want to force me off the road into a ditch. Don't know whether they were actually trying to, or simply didn't have a clue how incredibly close they came to hitting me as they passed...........Less scary, but no less startling was the beer bottle that a guy in the passenger seat of a fast-moving pick-up truck hurled at a road sign directly across the way from me. The bottle (empty) exploded as it hit the sign. Fortunately, none of the shards flew far enough across the road to hit me or get under my tires. I don't think the guys (driver, passenger) saw me until after their projectile was on its way to the sign; at any rate, I didn't get the feeling they were trying to harrass me.
