Before my last (and I swear by all that is holy that it was my LAST) marathon, I got some of these:

Very comfy for hiking and running. Slightly flared at the calf.

Disclaimer: I did not do the marathon in them. But I have done maybe 10 - 15 miles in them and they were fine. Also, I was more walking than running for my last marathon.

Yes, yes, yes! Running "compression" shorts/capris saved my thighs! (capris are favorite if you tend to have compression shorts creep up on you)

    It is a beautiful thing!

    Terry sells some, too.

And TE has a lovely selection: http://www.teamestrogen.com/categories.asp?catID=111 (I like the ones that are similar to biking capris)

Ladies!!!!! I did NOT need more reasons to shop!
I just yesterday spent my REI dividend, PLUS $100 extra on bike and tri shorts; then today headed to local running store and got all new running shoes, glide and socks (of course!); so what I didn't need tonight was a link to some really cool capris. You people are SO evil!

On the original subject: I have NEVER found regular shorts that don't cause chaffing -- I always wear compression shorts under any other type to cover the loveliness that are my inner thighs. Too painful in the shower later. But my preference is capris... almost never too hot for capris here in the Pacific Northwest!

Seriously --- thanks for the links everyone! This online shopping is my only entertainment at work when I'm bored at 3am! Dangerous stuff!

2+ on the capris and "tights" shorts. I wear them for my longer runs. I like RaceReady. They're (relatively) cheap. The shorts and, I think, the capris have a gusset that runs up the inside of the entire leg so there's no seam to chafe. They're not tight compression clothes. I like that. I hate feeling like an overstuffed sausage in my pants.

I'm in the same boat as you, and the sensitive skin on my inner thighs weeps for you. When I was 30 lbs lighter, my thighs just played nicely next to each other on runs. Now, they constantly rub and wrestle with each other. And longer shorts still ride up and find their way up my thighs to my connecting region (and all the bunched up fabric becomes like a diaper). Lately, I always run in my tri shorts. I haven't tried running compression shorts, as I assume they're the same thing. They keep my thighs nicely separated and in their own confined area so everybody gets along nicely.

And teigyr, I've been there before. Everybody's happy until the water hits and then you've never had such pain. Funny how chafing works.

Thanks ladies! DH and I are running a 5k to benefit Colon Cancer Research (Dad is in remission) and I desperately want a positive experience. My training runs have been horrific though. Back 30 lbs ago I could wear the running style shorts without issue but now I am a slight chunk and they don't work. I am going shopping this weekend.

Have got to say, I wore my tri shorts for a 13 mile treadmill run on friday. My thighs are completely RAW!!! I now understand the need for run capris. I usually wear them but wore the shorts because I knew I'd get hot.

I'm the same re 30 lbs. It needs to Go Away. You'd think with all the exercise it would but no...am actually thinking that I might need to do the D word. I don't like diets. I don't eat that poorly either...

Anyway, I'm feeling for you because those inner thigh rubbing things HURT!!!
