    back in the saddle again

This afternoon after work a bunch of us went out for the first spring ride. Weather was 66 with a 10-15 mph "breeze". I rode 13 miles on the Miss River Levee (flat, flat, flat), and did an average speed of 14.8 mph. My shoulder is not complaining, although I had to remember to bend my elbows and relax the shoulders, or rather, to get them out of my ears. IT band was "speaking", and the lungs complained bitterly. I need to get one of those shrug tube-y thingies for cooler days to wear around my throat, and another one to tame the loose hair bits. I was not the first to drop, but didn't ride the full length to the usual turn around spot (total of 26 miles). Have to ease my lungs into spring training, they are NOT used to moving lots of air for a few months. It's crap getting old-er.

Rumor has it thursday will be warmer, so maybe the lungs will be happier.

I'm not out of shape, round is a shape.

I'm with you. Or, as a twenty-something nutritionist blithely told me a couple years ago..."at your age, the body is now dying rather than building." She was a really nice young woman, but I mentioned that not every client my age would be so thrilled to hear about their nutritional needs in that exact way...

Glad you got out for a ride.

Great that you got out there! It'll come back. (I keep repeating this mantra to myself as well. ).
