    Good Luck Emily

    Hi Emily,
I remember reading somewhere (maybe girlbike) that you have your appt. at Duke tomorrow to see if you can put your weight on your leg, if I remember this correctly.

Anyway, I just want to wish you luck and hope that your prognosis is a good one.

    Hope you will update us.

    Emily -
I'd like to add to JoAnn's wishes, so I'm sending good wishes your way too. I hope the doc says it's OK to start the next step in your recovery!

crossing everything I can and still type!!!

Let us know what the doc says!!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

    Aw shucks, thanks ladies!

You are all the greatest. I am very excited about my appointment today at 1:15 (never been looking forward to a dr. appt. before, that I recall!)

I will definitely send an update. Last appointment I had to wait for 2 hours to see the doc, so it might take most of the afternoon til I'm home. I am hoping for good news! I dreamed last night that I was graduating from high school (a bit odd since I am 44) and was going to have to use my walker to get across the stage, but then I forgot it and was going to try to walk without it. Woke up before I got to try, but hopefully I'll soon be trying in real life!

P.S. A bike club friend told Barry yesterday (he was riding with 'em) that they are going to set up an "Emily ride" when I am ready to pedal outdoors again. It's going to be a nice relaxing pace, very mellow....isn't that sweet!?

Thoughts are with you from half a world away, Emily
I'm guessing you must be there about now

Barry and the crew are good people - glad you have them

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

    Okay gals, here's the update!

    Check it out here:
    http://www.livejournal.com/users/emily_c_smith/

It'll be awhile yet before I can ride outdoors, but I knew that. Still, I've come unbelievably far in eight weeks, and I get to use resistance on the trainer today! I never thought I'd be so happy to hear that!

Thanks again for all the support, and I'll keep ya' posted!

    ~Emily

P.S. Nuthatch, I love the image of being protected by my buddies from "canine interference".

And I"m with you - I Love the visual of you surrounded by all these big burly guys snarling and snapping at anything coming even Close to you!......do ya got a yellow jersey for your first ride??...the pix would be priceless!!!

Oh yes, I do have a yellow jersey or two! Might have to wear it for fun! I suspect a lot of the riders will be women, plus a guy on a recumbent trike (he's the one who came up with the idea). I told Barry he would have to ride his Bike Friday with all four panniers loaded with STUFF so he could go nice-n-slow for me!
