When I was in high school, one of our regular opponents in sports was the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. We thought they were all geeks, but we really just wanted to be as smart as they were.

In basketball, whenever a NCSSM (or S&M, as we called it ) player shot a free-throw, the whole crowd from my school would yell out, "3.14159! Who's the NERD on the line!" Oh, and we'd all dress up in lab coats and wear geeky glasses with tape on the nosepiece.

    Kids can be so mean.

DD loves her math teacher. She spent several days memorizing pi to about 90 digits, and is bringing homemade pecan pie to class. I think she's a bit of a geek in training, but that's ok by me.

I never thought of today as Pi day. I was not able to experience any of these fun activities like bringing pie to class when I was in school. Some people might think I was hidding under a rock or something....

Thanks for the reminder of what today is...it will help me remember when I constantly forget the day's date today...

rij73 - Engineering major does not compute! I would have sworn you were a fine arts major!

Yeah... well it didn't last long! Couple of years in, I decided to give my all to the piano, so I quit school and then transferred to a conservatory of music.

Our math classes celebrated Pi day today. I enjoyed my slice of cherry pie! One class elected to have pizza pies (they did not share, boo hiss).
