Ok, so I just went back and browsed at last years training logs that I posted here.
Seems a few things stand out. I ALWAYS bonk at 50 miles, but if I give it a minute I can push through it. So I guess I just didn't give it enough time today.
Also, I didn't train any harder last year than I am this year, except in the long ride/brick dept.
So heck, maybe I WILL surprise myself??
Who knows??
YEA!!!!!
I was so bummed for you when I read this thread. GO FOR IT!!!! If you pull out, you pull out, but at least you will have tried. I think the TE team is right. You might just surprise yourself....
I agree and think you should definitely try for it. You have (at least) 3 years of a great base built up so even though you might have "slacked" on your training this year, I'm sure you can pull from the base you've acquired over the past several years. If this was your first IM, I think I'd be scared for you, but since it's your third (right?) your body knows what to expect, knows how the distances feel, and I think at this point it might be mind over body anyway. Good luck with the rest of your training - just don't kill yourself 2 weeks out from the race b/c you're trying to catch up.
(This coming from a 2007 FL IMer who's taking this year off to rest. Congrats to you for keeping up the spirit year after year!)
Let us know how it's going and if you need more support. If I lived near you, I'd come out and ride those 100 miles with you! Sometimes that's all it takes - just someone else to give you a little push when your mind/body is trying to fight back.
That's the spirit RM!
Just go out there and try. If you can't finish... then so be it. But if you do, then woo-hoo!
Here's how I see it... you paid your money... and if you don't try to race then it's like throwing money away. Use up that $500 lady!
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside thoroughly used-up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!!"
RM - I am soooooooooo glad you've changed your mind set. You really can do this and if you don't, at least you will have tried. I have a feeling that you'll do great.![]()
